Bit of down time this Christmas? Why not add value to your home

By Penny Peng

Christmas is well and truly upon us and everyone is starting to spend less time on work and more time on the important things, family, friends and downtime around the house.

While it is important to spend as much time as possible having fun over the break, what about those quiet days around the house. If you’re like me you get a bit restless. Have a look below at some of the very simple and basic DIY ideas that will add value to your home if you’re considering selling in 2017 as well as just freshen up the place for Summer.

1: Painting

I’m not suggesting you paint the whole house, but what about a couple of bedrooms? Or could your living room do with a fresh coat?

A really trendy style at the moment is simple wall art demonstrated above – You can get the kids involved and add another element to your home, as well as adding value by freshening up the look.

2: Garden Landscaping

Once again; cheap, simple and requires only a couple of hours sometimes. There’s a saying that kitchens and bathrooms sell houses – if this is true then gardens would be a close second. Sometimes the backyard does get a little lost and messy, so why not glam it up with a few new plants and bit of colour. Get creative with the look and have fun doing it.

3: Presentation and de-cluttering

We all fall into this trap. Buy more stuff for the house but never actually clean out the old stuff. If it is not sentimental to you or your family, it should be time to get rid of it. Set aside a couple of hours here and there over the break to simply clean out some of the mess. If it is still good quality, donate it to the needy. If it is simply junk then throw it away. Allow yourself to start the new year with a clean and spacious house – it will do wonders for your mental health.

The ideas listed are only three small and cheap ideas to help freshen up the look of your house. If you are considering to sell in the new year then all of these ideas will add value to your home. If you aren’t looking to sell, it is still a great idea to keep your place looking amazing and involve the family in little DIY projects to entertain them.

From all of us at Ray White Brighton – have an excellent Christmas, a happy New Year, and enjoy the time with family and friends.
